Invisalign Q & A

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses revolutionary technology to perfectly customize transparent aligners that work to shift the position of your teeth gradually. Your personal treatment plan at Dental Excellence of South Bay predicts the exact path of every tooth to be moved and orchestrates this transformation by choreographing the movement of small groups of teeth with each aligner tray. Every two weeks, you receive a new set of aligners designed to move your teeth closer to their ideal positions for a beautiful smile all your own.

What conditions can Invisalign treat?

The specialists at Dental Excellence of South Bay have extensive training and experience with Invisalign and can use the system to treat a wide range of orthodontic issues. Invisalign is highly effective in treating the following conditions:

  • Gap teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite
  • Crowded teeth

Invisalign is an excellent option for mildly crooked teeth. When your teeth are straighter overall, you can discover new confidence with your healthy, vibrant smile.

How is Invisalign different from regular braces?

Modern metal braces now come in a variety of colors, but they’re definitely still very visible in your mouth. Braces have to be tightened, making the process painful. It can also be difficult to keep teeth clean while wearing braces.

Invisalign is virtually invisible because the aligners are clear and fit your teeth like a glove. Invisalign moves teeth gently, so there’s less discomfort than braces. The aligners are removable for eating, cleaning, and brushing your teeth. The innovative technology allows your doctor to make exact adjustments to your teeth for optimal results.

Traditional braces may be the best option if you have very complicated alignment problems or more than one condition to be treated.

What is involved in getting my aligners?

One of the Invisalign-trained providers at Dental Excellence of South Bay begins with a consultation and a thorough assessment to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign. Next, your doctor captures a sophisticated 3D image of your teeth with a special scanner. Using this scan, your doctor works with advanced software to design your treatment plan. Once your plan is finalized, your aligners are created using a state-of-the-art printing process.

How long will I have to wear my aligners?

Invisalign treatment takes anywhere from 6-18 months. You wear your aligners for 20-22 hours every day. Each set of aligners is worn for two weeks. You have checkups every 6-8 weeks to ensure your progress is on track.

For teenagers, aligners come with blue compliance indicator dots, so parents can tell if their teen is wearing them for the required amount of time.
